Once you have adverse remark goto the RPO office (I remember it was in worli for me) and explain them (if they ask). The same thing happened with me in Mumbai, it will go to RPO, after waiting for a month they automatically reinitiated police verification, and this time I'm ready with my father's passport. (He got it within a week in my hometown) 

I got my passport a week later. They basically need proof for the place of birth for any one parent.

Same thing happened with me. They asked for my parents and grandparents birth certificate. When I could not provide, approval was denied. After many days of delay, my Dad had a quiet talk with the officer concerned, money changed hands and  verification was done that day itself.

You cannot turn around in this country without having to prove your identity. To use town parks. To rent an apartment or close on a house. To go to the doctor. To apply for a job. And in that case, also provide your social security card and at least one utility bill along with submitting to a drug test. At a police roadblock. To use a bank or draw a money order. To rent a storage unit. To buy or rent a car. Regarding identification requirements, I have an honest question for those who’d say they discriminate. Turnout in battleground states looks a bit better, at 70% for 2024.  It makes sense that people in states with overwhelming majorities of one party would be less likely to vote, especially if they belong to the minority in that state.

Considering all the posts I see of bringing up the issue of non voters this election cycle, it's a bit ironic that this year is actually the year with the 2nd lowest population of non voters. Sure it's lower than last cycle, but the fact remains that overall more people voted on average and it's not as bad as say 2016 where nearly half the population didn't vote. I don't know what to make of it, but it feels like this is a graph that should be posted more around reddit to show that this perceived issue with non voters has been happening for multiple cycles, and this year isn't some odd anomaly.

I think we need three things in the United States - a system of voting that compels participation, with penalties, a la Australia.  You don't have to vote for anyone, but you have to cast a ballot.  Ranked choice voting - Vote for who you want, but also list your second, third, last choices.  A viable third party.

I read recently that "get out the vote" campaigns usually favored democrats - the more voters you could shake out, the better dems do.

RECENTLY the opposite is true - the more marginal voters you get to vote, the better GOP does.

It’s not really surprising that Biden outstripped those who did not vote given the political climate of the time. Trump had to go… those voters disappeared when they thought someone else will make sure nothing bad happens… so this next presidential election cycle they will show up, because they only vote when it gets inconvenient for them, living in their glass houses, thinking all is well.

(IE, a state that historically has changed "color" within the last several election cycles.)

Many states are either so one-sided they never change or are so gerrymandered it's impossible for them to change.

Easiest option would be to go to your favorite party's office and ask for help. They will leave no stone unturned to get that extra vote knowing you will vote for them. 
You can do this with multiple party offices as well, if you know what I mean.

took me three visits to the voter id office to file a request for issue of duplicate (my original one had mistakes which are now fixed in their records). i was told that i would get the duplicate in a few weeks. six months have passed and i still do not have it. 

i am just too tired of going through the entire process again. no one has complained about the existing voter id card i have even with the mistakes. so i continue to use it. 

it's kind of sad. voter id card does not seem to have anything special that they have to issue you a printed copy. not sure why they do not just provide a soft copy like aadhaar.

in your case... have you checked if your data has been added to the database? because if that's done, you should still be able to cast your vote with your aadhaar or another id document. just search for your details on the ceo website for your state. and as others have indicated... most people tend to get better response when they apply through the local politician's office.

Hey first you need to find your booth, ask around which booth serves for your locality and then get in touch with booth level officer.
You can find the contact number of your BLO here http://ceotserms1.telangana.gov.in/BLO_REGISTER/SEARCH/BLO_SEARCH.aspx

As your parents are registered, so you can ask them.
However, this list also has address of booths, so you can also try to find an nearby booth with the help of address. Now each booth serves for different locality so its gonna be a hit and trial.

Fill your Form 6 and submit to him/her. Since a registration drive is going on in your [state](https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/hyderabad/revision-of-electoral-rolls-begins-in-telangana/articleshow/65636891.cms), they should be sitting at booth on each/alternate Sundays.

As far as previous attempts to register are concerned, lodge a complaint with ECI [here](https://eci-citizenservices.eci.nic.in/default.aspx). See if that works.

In Denmark we all get a voting slip by mail a couple of weeks before an election, and that is unique to us.     
We give that when voting, which is at a designated location, or we have to do it earlier at another designated location.

In my US state you need to provide proof of ID and residency when you **register** to vote. But voting itself is seamless and easy and does not require ID, just a signature. There are as few barriers as possible. The election commission has very intense methods of maintaining the voter roll and compares records with the department of health, death notices, social security, the DMV, and other groups to constantly verify the accuracy of the list, but that work is on the back end, and not on the shoulders of the voters.

As an aside, I just realized while typing this that gutting all those agencies, as DOGE is doing, makes our elections less secure. Gahhhh.

Anyway, my point is, my state has the highest voter turnout and is consistently audited to find the most secure elections in the country. There are proven ways to do that without making voting less accessible for certain people.

No, I don't. I think it's important that voting is accessible to as many people as possible.

And as a Canadian ID is *not* required to vote here. I know this as I've worked at elections polls in the past. If someone does not have ID another voter who *does* have valid ID can vouch for their identity. A person can only vouch for one other individual per election and both people need to sign a legal declaration. If that is falsified it's a fraud charge with a massive fine so it does not tend to be overused.

An SSN should be fine. 1 vote 1 SSN. If theres a discrepancy its going to be investigated anyway. Even polling centers are bullshit. You should just be able to verify your identity online and vote. You can leverage around $50,000 on any stock exchange with nothing but an ID verification service. Why cant you vote online? Its stupid. Obviously just voter suppression in action.

Not sure; you already have to have a license or ID to register to vote already in WA Sate where I live. And I like dropping my ballot in a box instead of standing in line. I don't want it to be cumbersome and time consuming to vote. What about the elderly and people with chronic illnesses? I am a fan of mail in and dropping the ballot into the ballot box type of voting. If they make people stand in long lines to vote then that's too much work and time, less people will vote, this discourages people from taking part in the electoral process and seems counterproductive, if that's what would happen.

I don't know where the idea that "obtaining an ID is too hard for some people" even came from. Obviously you should be identifiable to vote. If getting an ID is too hard for you then going to the polls is going to be an insurmountable task anyway.
